Although the story was based on a much earlier stage play, by the time Mary played this role the title certainly suited her in real life because she was probably the richest female Hollywood movie star in the world at that time. Together with her husband, Douglas Fairbanks and 2 other mega millionaires Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith they founded and owned the Hollywood Studios known as United Artists.
In later decades other famous women were given the same title, i.e. WoolWorth's heiress Barbara Hutton and also Gloria Vanderbilt.
